2026 Shows

Thank you for an incredible season of art shows and conversations.

John’s taking the winter months to create new work in the shed, and we look forward to seeing you at shows again in 2025.

As John heads into the studio for the winter season, we’re happy to share that he has been invited back to the Ann Arbor Art Fair for July 2025.

What I Do

I am a self-taught woodturner who started with custom woodworking. Based in West Michigan, I specialize in highly figured wood and burls. Working primarily with locally sourced materials and sustainably farmed Australian wood, I use a lathe and hand-carving techniques to reveal each piece’s natural beauty. My process is intuitive—"read" the wood as I turn, and allow its unique grain and patterns to guide the final form. Avoiding artificial stains or colors, I occasionally incorporate epoxy or ground stone, such as turquoise, to enhance the organic aesthetics. My philosophy is simple: Let the wood speak for itself. I transform overlooked raw materials into striking, one-of-a-kind pieces, uncovering the hidden artistry within nature. My current projects continue to explore the delicate balance between craftsmanship and the natural world—always with a mindful approach.
